American Football in Mexico

Go Borregos!
The TEC's stadium - with an amazing backdrop!

We helped three people move last weekend. Yup... I think that's our calling in life - to be other people's movers. It's a good thing we like doing it :).

But during the move, we met Laurie's boyfriend, who happens to be a coach of Monterrey TEC's (one of the best universities in Mexico) American Football team. So he got us tickets to go watch the TEC Borregos play - which we did tonight.

Marion & Laurie at the Borregos game.

It was really fun to watch, but the best parts had nothing to do with the game. First, we got "elote desgranados." What is it, you ask. Well, first you get a cup. Then you put mayonnaise AND heavy cream into the cup. Add a scoop of boiling hot corn, and then top it off with cheese, chili sauce, and chili powder. Sound yummy?!

Hot dogs? Popcorn? Nope - but they've got elotes!

An "elote desgranado" - the BEFORE shot.

The same "elote desgranado" - after the requisite stirring. Mmm...

The other fun parts included the "Coca-Cola" girls (By the way, Coca Cola has definitely got 99.9% of the market share here for carbonated beverages! ACN folks, could you please confirm?!), and the "Bimbo" girls. Yep, you read it correctly. "Bimbo" is probably the market leader for bread products here - I wish I could get one of their t-shirts!

The Coca-Cola girls.

The Bimbo girls and their Pillsbury look-alike mascot.

And of course, how can you forget the mascot himself? The Borrego was pretty hilarious. And cute too.

Mr. Borrego.
