It never fails. You think your plans are solid and foolproof, and then, BAM! On the last possible day before we head over the border into Mexico, a billion and one chores and errands need to be run. That's why there are no cool photos. Except for what we tried to take in the dark on the way into San Antonio.
We arrived in San Antonio (an extremely friendly town, by the way) after a 13 hour drive from Tucson, late at night. We received a letter from Kris' mom, with Kris' new driver's licence, plus a medical form. A blank medical form with a date of return for September 19, 2006. Great. I'm sure Canada's going to accept a medical form filled out by Random Doctor in Mexico.
So the next morning, we had to find a clinic. Bracing ourselves for a $500 physical, we were pleasantly surprised to find a short wait time, AND only a ~$50 fee! No wonder richer Americans love private health care!
Our next task was finding a hair dye for Mom K at Wal-Mart. After looking in Wal-Marts throughout California, Arizona, and having no luck, we finally found what we needed in good ol' San Antonio. Then, we had to find a post office. We finally got the package off, and then we needed some lunch.
By the time we got out of San Antonio (our estimated departure time had been 1pm), it was 3pm. Great first impressions for our new school colleagues :)!
By the way, Texas is definitely its own country. Where else (except maybe in Quebec) would you find similar signs that say "Don't Mess with Texas" in remote places along the highway? (Ed. Note. October 4, 2006 - I've since been informed that those signs apparently have something to do with a Litter Campaign...!)
