Connecticut Tragedy

Tears came to my eyes, and a tight feeling gripped my heart as I read the news and looked at the photos of the parents and the children involved in the Connecticut elementary school shooting.

I can't even begin to imagine how those parents of the 18 dead children must be feeling right now. I feared for my own kids' futures, and the thoughts of homeschooling immediately entered my mind. But I know I can't protect my kids. This world is evil. Only God is perfect, and until we live with Him, there is no way my husband or I can protect our children from everything. We can only live life trusting in God, and most of all, teaching our children about the Lord.

I'm compelled now, more than ever, to teach my children how to pray, how to trust the Lord, how to hear his voice, how to reach for Him in good times and in bad. There will be many times in their lifetime when I can't come to their rescue, whether it's something as minute as a failed test or (I'm praying that this will never happen to them) something as severe and evil as today's school shootings.

Stricter gun laws might be a start. But maybe what Americans and Canadians need to consider is bringing God back into school. Our nations have kicked God out of pretty much every aspect of life - as Christians, let's pray ever more fervently that we, as a nation, will ask God back into our daily lives. Only He is the almighty. Only He is more powerful than all the evil in this world.
