Tabasco & Chiapas - Part 4 - Villahermosa

Villahermosa and its "Hermoso" Zoo.

We spent only a short time in Villahermosa. It's a bustling oil town, but it was an extremely friendly place. Even its animals were warm and hospitable! We spent most of the day at the Parque la Venta, which is part zoo and part archeological site. The Olmecs used to live in these parts and they've found these giant stone carvings, mostly of heads all around Tabasco. We loved exploring and because we heard of this "Dos Montes" taxi that cost half the price to get to the airport, ended up meeting some fantastic people. We went to a mall to catch a taxi, and ended up in some cab with this old Mexican man who happened to be fluent in English and French! We chatted in all three languages with him, dropped him off at home, before getting to the Dos Montes taxi stand. There, we waited with a whole bunch of people, and then squeezed into a small cab with 2 others. We ended up in some little village outside of Villahermosa, touring the place as the cab driver dropped off and picked up more folks. We eventually did make it to the airport, but not before having the pleasure of experiencing a little more Tabascan life.

Peacock: "Yes, I think they're looking at us."
Birdie: "Who?"

Gorgeous parrots - just hanging with us!

These ducks were extremely friendly and active.

This little sea otter was totally enjoying his
fish-head lunch.

Kris, the Olmec.

These critters scampered all around us - friendly little buggers!

The little rascal was digging for food.

Check out this River Crocodile. Just its head was
all I needed to see!

Kris & Marion and one of many Olmec heads.

Monkeys all around.

I like scratching my armpit with this stick.

Suntanning his white belly.

Best friends.
