Kaohsiung Lantern Festival

Every year, on the 15th day of the first lunar month, the country celebrates "Lantern Festival." Traditionally, everyone gets a lantern and walks around, lighting up the city.
However, with the modern times upon us, the festival has added Disney characters to its line up! Kids and adults made giant lantern sculptures (much like the snow/ice sculptures at Carnival in Quebec) for the celebration. As this was the year of the rat, the sculptures all had to do with... rats. Mickey himself made it into the festival. My favourite sculpture was one I didn't take a picture of. It was a rat inside a french fries package - and the title was "大署" (da shu) which is a play on words for "大鼠" (da shu). The former meaning "large fries" whilst the latter means "big rat."

This TV reporter thought the appearance of foreigners

at the lantern festival would make a good show.

This was my second favourite sculpture: this rat is weightlifting
the mousetrap wire off of him!

Jenny and Wurst Bude - the hot dog dude.

Food was an important part of our night out - Kris

says he had the best corn dogs ever. He also ate the worst

snack ever - Seaweed Corn Pops.
