The Joys of Southern Living

I love living in the warm south. Unfortunately, so do other creatures... like snakes. Yesterday, we were informed that a baby boa constrictor was found in the Art room. And apparently, a momma boa can have 30-40 of these babies at once. Great.

And then they told us that 2 cobras had been found this past school year in the playgrounds.

Then, they showed us a snake bite kit. I'm definitely not saving anyone - I couldn't even read the instructions without getting freaked out. I guess you have to first put the area with the snake bite in a tourniquet, then use the razor blade that is included to make incisions where the venom is. Next step? Use the suction apparatus provided to suck out the venom.

Today, the nurse told us there's an updated kit, but I'm not sure if I want to know what that entails. And they are looking into getting anti-venom for some of the TWENTY-FOUR types of poisonous snakes that are on the island.

I have never been a nature person, and this is surely not winning any points for me.

But then I hear about the winters in Canada, and I'm grateful that I can be on a balcony overlooking pineapple fields in January.
