Houghton, New York

Near Houghton - Letchworth State Park

June 24 - July 6, 2007

What happens when a bunch of missionaries get together? Reptile and amphibian shows, song-writing, crazy skits, gaggles of laughs and tears, and a whole lot of love!

We spent these last 2 weeks at PFO - Pre-Field Orientation in Houghton, New York. We met some wonderful folks going to all different places. We'll put up some folks photos, but because others are going to "sensitive areas of the world," we won't.

It was amazing being with a group of people with like-minded missions and desires. We all want to serve God and tell others about His amazing grace and love. It was incredible being with others who love God, and genuinely love people. We're really glad we had the opportunity to be there and spend time with these amazing people.

And for memory's sake - here's the unofficial PFO song, written by yours truly:

The TCK-PFO Song

G D
We’ve now been here at PFO
A D
For about 12 whole days
G D
We’ve learned a lot so we that we
A
Can be on our way – ay.
(Chorus)

CHORUS

C
So…
D A
I hope you remember that,
D G
When on the field we go,
D G
The messages God’s presented,
D A D
To us at this TICK-FO.

We first learned there was good fishing
Here in the town of “Huf-ton”
But we also learned about Christ
And how to unite as one - un!

We should all be great now
At cultural sensitivity
Cause now we know about the
Negative attribution theory- eee!

(Chorus)

Don’t forget about our profiles
Like the responsible SJs,
And all about those we’re serving
That breed called TCK-ays!

Remember also to
Inspire & Require
And also that we must
Perspire and Desire - ire!

(Chorus)

We’ve learned to deal with conflicts
And to forgive all wrongs
And also to praise God with
Lightfoot-inspired song- ongs!

(Chorus)

And if we all unite again
We’ll be speaking in different tongues
But we’ll all still be pronouncing
Houghton as “Huf-ton”!

But… I hope we’ll still remember that
On the fields we’ll go
The messages God’s presented
To us at this TICK-FO!

Excellent! Now I will be able to sing the TCK-PFO song any time I want to. Unlike your instant celebrity status after playing, I'll probably chase people away if I try to sing it especially since I'm about 10 notches below you in my guitar playing skills. And we all KNOW how good you are, Marion. :)

So you're a composer, on top of all of your other talents, Marion!! I don't get the capital letters between the lines of the chorus though....please illuminate me.

Anyway, I want you to know just how great it was to spend some time with you at the farm recently! I told you that I'd check out your blog and here I am. I only managed to look at some of your most recent entries but I'm pretty impressed. I look forward to living out some adventures vicariously through you.

God bless you two and keep you safe on your travels!! Much love...
